The Council of Textile & Fashion Industries of Australia (TFIA) has been successfully representing Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) industries since the 1940s.

TFIA began when the Textile Council of Australia was formed as an umbrella organisation to provide a focal point for a number of sector-specific associations.

Over the years, TFIA has devoted a lot of resources to lobbying Government for TCF funding and support programs.

As highlighted in the 2008 TCF Review by Professor Roy Green, the survival of the TCF industry is reliant on businesses being innovative - both in new technologies and business models.

Australian & international TCF conferences

TFIA supports innovative research and development in the TCF industry through the ISS Institute Fellowship program.

The goal of TFIA Technet is to increase the participation of Australian TCF businesses in the development of future technologies that assist with commercialisation of products into the global market.

The Australian TCF Technology Network was a project started under the Victorian Government's VicStart program that ran from 2005 through 2008.

TFIA has re-establised the Australian TCF Technology Network as TFIA Technet. The role of Technet is to:

create a network that has both an intermediary/brokerage aspect and a general information aspect

facilitate linkages between companies, researchers and financiers in both TCF and non-TCF sectors

provide a showcase for Australian TCF R&D activities both in Australia and overseas

create an environment that allows for effective technology transfer and innovation in the TCF sector that nurtures the adoption of future ideas
