The Competitive Manufacturing Initiative (CMI) is a collaborative response from Australia’s Manufacturing Industry Training Advisory Bodies (ITABs) funded by the D.E.S.T. The initiative is designed to assist Australian manufacturers to become more globally competitive through innovative Vocational Education and Training (VET).
The aim of this initiative is to introduce new manufacturing concepts and processes to the manufacturing sector, which will help this sector to create a stronger focus on:
The CMI project will contribute to the performance of the manufacturing industry by assisting leading Registered Training Organisations to develop training that closely matches emerging industry needs. It is anticipated the new training model that links traditional technical skills with new models of systems and process management will deliver significant “bottom line” benefits to companies.
This certificate consists of 10 units of competency, which can be organised in the following clusters:
Certificate IV in Competitive Manufacturing will primarily support the training needs of employees who have leadership responsibilities in implementing manufacturing practice systems such as team leaders, supervisors and managers.
This qualification is also appropriate for machine operators who work under minimum supervision, where they have to self-manage themselves and make complex decisions independently.
