Winning an award is a pathway to growth

There are many competitions available to Australian designers and design students. Some have generous prizes that lead to greater opportunities. Each of of the State-based fashion festivals have awards. Others are conducted by government, industry bodies, colleges and private entities.

Keep checking back. We are gathering information to build a one-stop list of state and national competitions.

LMFF Designer Award

The nation's most prestigious and highly regarded fashion award for emerging design talent; the 2010 LMFF Designer Award went to Dion Lee.

Be prepared for next year's round in September 2010.

Australasian Student Design Awards

Design awards for student with multiple categories, including fashion design.

Entry is open to students currently studying full time equivalent or apprentice tertiary courses at a Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma or Degree level, or graduated from any of these courses in Semester 2 of the previous year.

The 2010 winners have been announced and are listed on the Design Institute of Australia website. Watch out for next year's nominations in April.

The Australian Wool Fashion Awards (TAWFA) are sponsored by AWI & are designed to showcase the use of Merino wool by national & international fashion designers & students.

DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship

The DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship aims to identify Australia's hottest up-and-coming fashion exporters and assist them in achieving international growth. It is open to Australian fashion designers who have been exporting for less than four years.

The winner of the scholarship will receive international freight to the value of AUD10,000 and coaching in freight and logistics from DHL Express.

Entries for 2010 closed on June 8th. The winner will be announced on the DHL website.

British Council Realise Your Dream

The British Council's 2010 Realise Your Dream awards present a fantastic opportunity to emerging creative leaders in Australia, offering a professional development trip to the UK (sponsored by Virgin), introductions to key industry contacts, and $8000 spending money from NAB Cash Passport Account.
